Some of you may or may not know the story of 71-year old Robert Durst, the son of a billionaire New York real estate developer, which has been chronicled on HBO’s show “The Jinx”. Durst has been suspected on three murders from New York to California including one in Texas. Durst was actually tried in Texas on murder where he killed his neighbor and cut the mans body into pieces. Durst stuffed the body into garbage bags like trash and dumped them. He was finally caught and tried in court where he argued self defense. Durst was acquitted and allowed to walk free which shocked many back in 2003. The story is insane and the HBO documentary has sucked in my wife and I especially since they actually have Robert Durst sitting down with them and discussing things. The series finale is tonight on HBO but we have news today that Robert Durst was arrested in New Orleans on a LA warrant for the murder of Susan Berman. When Berman was murdered, shot in the back of the head in her LA home, the killer sent a letter to the Beverly Hills Police Department containing the address of Susan Berman and the words “cadaver”. This tends to suggest that the murder was not random and by someone she knew who did not want her body to be decomposing in the home. This had people pointing their fingers at Durst who was close to Berman and may have revealed some information on his wife’s disappearance in the 80’s. The thought is that Berman may have tried blackmailing Durst to keep the information quiet. Of course, this is all as circumstantial as it gets. On the letter sent to the police department the word Beverly was spelled as “Beverley”. On HBO’s The Jinx, the step-son of Susan Berman uncovered a letter in her belongings from Robert Durst with the same misspelling of “Beverley” as well as similar looking handwriting. The case is all circumstantial as they can place Robert Durst in California at the time of the murder but not in LA. The case on him in Texas was much more solid and he got off on that one so unless there is some damning evidence that hasn’t been revealed I can’t imagine a conviction. Berman was associated with the mob and things of that nature, opening the door wide open for reasonable doubt. This story will definitely be on my radar and the Finale to the Jinx docu-reality series is tonight on HBO.
